I was planning on posting last night but got too busy with things so, please forgive me. It was a long week of snow removal at my day job and I was running slow. Anyway, Sunday I'm going to be going back and forth between my pet portrait and my floral that I'm working on. As I get to the point where the paint is too wet to work any longer on one I'll switch to the other.   Going in to today I got a good start on the background on my pet portrait. I layed in the gray tones for the curtains on the right [...]

On Monday evening I was able to get off to a good start on my pet portrait. I got my drawing on nicely with the two cats framed just right laying next to other other. I was then able to get the basic background painted in with very thin paint. My gameplan is to finish the background witch includes a couple of curtains from the window behind them and let that dry completely. After that I'll paint my cat that is slightly behind the other one and let that dry. I can then paint my female cat on the right [...]

On Friday I talked about how I couldn't find a good picture of both of my cats together. I planned on doing a pet portrait of one of each. I brought up one more CD with my photos on my computer and was able to find a really good one of them both together that I missed. I still might do one of each in the future, but this photo is a winner with them right next to each other with great expressions on their faces. I got a canvas for it and this evening I plan on doing the [...]

As you know, I'm planning on doing a pet portrait of my cats. I also was deciding on whether I wanted to do them together or one of each. It looks like one of each as I don't have a good photo of them together. I could wait with my camera on the coffee table but all of you cat lovers out there know how hit and miss that is.   I do have some good ones of my male cat so I plan on starting on that one while finding one of my female. In the meantime I'm going to [...]

This Sunday I was able to finish "Bellevue Avenue" in time for my newsletter. I took it in to my day job and people loved it. I have always been fond of this "tucked away" country road and I'm glad that I decided to paint it. I did use my artistic license to make it a better painting. I decided to paint the trees on the left in the foreground the same violet reds that I used on the dark foliage at the top right. I felt I had enough green in the painting and that by adding more of [...]

As you recall from Wednesday, I'm close to finishing "Bellevue Avenue" and plan on taking a photo of it this weekend. One small problem, the weather here in the Pittsburgh area is in the middle of an artic blast. My concern of course is my camera as I need to have a few minutes to line up the shot to get the best photo I can. I'm not ruling it out as the weather people so far can't really pin it down so you never know.   As far as the painting, I just need to highlight some foliage on the [...]

Today I thought I would do something a little different and share with you some art world "did you know?". - Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci was also an inventor? One of the things he made was a flying machine that you had to pedal and I believe it did go up in the air a few feet. The king thought it was a tool of the devil and made him destroy it. - Did you know that in 1961, Matisse's Le Bateau (The Boat) hung upside-down for 2 months in the Museum of Modern Art, New York? None of [...]

As you know, I took a week of vacation from my day job to get to some art related things that I didn't have the time to get to otherwise. I'm happy to say that I was able to get most of it done. I was able to help with my window display in my hometown. I was able to reorganize some things in my studio and was able to come up with some changes on my website. As I mentioned on Saturday, I'm still trying to get a few good photos of myself to put on my website so [...]

This Thursday, Sue Matthews and I were able to get my paintings into the window next to Classic Chevy on Lincoln Avenue. We were planning to do it Wednesday but Sue's broken drier took care of that. I was able to get nine paintings in there including four of my largest ones.   I thought I was being clever by getting a parking space right in front of the window only to be told by Sue that we load from the back of the building in the alley. We were done in about a half hour including taking the last artists [...]

Today at 11:00, Sue Matthews and I were going to install my window display. Unfortunately her drier broke and could only be looked at today so we're going to do it tomorrow at 11:00 instead. We will still have to work around the weather but I'm sure we will find a way. I have a small car (great when gas was $4.00) so I'll have to bring my paintings down in two trips but no more than three.   Being on vacation from my day job is working for me well. I'm relaxing but taking care of some things that I [...]

As you know by now I had the pleasure of doing a commission for a new collector to give to his girlfriend as a Christmas present. I was able to meet the deadline, do my decorating, write my Christmas cards, and do my shopping without rushing around just as I planned. What I didn't take into account is the fact that I am a human and do need to rest. Yes, I didn't rush or stress out during December but the toll of a demanding day job and still having "work" to do after work until 11:00 at night proved [...]
