HOW LONG WOULD IT TAKE?

Today I think I'll share my thoughts on one of the most common questions that artists get asked, how long would it take you to paint that?   Good question and the answer is it depends on a few different things. How big is the painting? The amazing thing that I've found over the years is that sometimes a large painting can take less time to paint then a smaller one! You have to remember that the larger the painting the larger the details become as well.   Another factor is the subject matter of the painting. A commission of a house, car, or motorcycle [...]

THE LOCAL ART SCENE

Today I thought I would share with you the local art scene here in my home town of Bellevue, just outside of Pittsburgh.   In Bellevue we have Matthew's Art Center which as many of you know now used be Benaquesta Art And Frame, where I took painting classes as a boy. Matthew's is where I had my first art show last year and where I'll be having another next year as well. Sue Matthews the owner has done a great job supporting the local artists and keeping the tradition of offering art lessons started by "Miss B.", as we called [...]

UNDER THE WEATHER

Today I've spent my second straight day mostly getting rest and running to bathroom as a result of what I feel was a summer stomach "bug" of some sort. I had to call off my day job both days and just didn't have anything in the tank to blog yesterday so I'm just trying to "stick to my guns" and write something today.     It's amazing how you take your health for granted, and then "wham" you don't have the strength to get out of bed. Anyway I think a good nights rest tonight and I'll be fine for tomorrow, but I'll take it easy [...]

RED ROCK SUNSET

Yesterday I was able to take some photos and post my latest work "Red Rock Sunset" . This is my impression of the sun's last rays hitting a rocky hillside in the southwest. I also was able to group all my paintings into "collections" so it's easier then ever to find specific artwork on my site.     It looks like I got a bit of a groove going and I plan on keeping it up. Right now I'm working on a landscape with a trail in the middle and a nice highlighted area of pine trees. If you liked my "trail" paintings [...]

POSITIVE FEEDBACK

As you may know I recently posted my latest painting "Valentino Rossi" here on my website as well as show it to a few people. I'm happy to say it's getting good reviews.   This was my first attempt at doing a detailed painting involving a human figure. Now that I showed that I can do work of this nature , people are asking me about if I can do something like that for them. One person wants a painting of themselves  in their goalie equipment and another one wants a painting of their car. It looks like "mission accomplished" (oops! I [...]

SUMMER CAN BE A GUT CHECK

by PAT QUINN on 7/7/2008 6:16:49 AM

What I've found over the years is how much easier it is in life to be dedicated to something in the winter months as opposed to the summer. I remember back in the day when I practiced guitar, how many kids practiced for hours in the winter only to let them collect dust as they went to the pool everyday in the summer, myself included.     I had to choose between the two as there are only 24 hours in a day. And I chose my art. There have been many, many, days in the summer where I have been painting [...]
