Today I have for you a great article to close out November with. It
was done by Clyde Lee Dennis and expresses his opinion well so happy
reading and please comment if you disagree.
Michelangelo was born Italian and lived from 1475 to 1564.
Among many other famous works of art he is credited with sculpting
David and Pieta, designing the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica and
painting the famed Sistine Chapel frescoes.
During his 89 year life he embodied the persona of an Artist. Leaving

Today I found for you a nice little article that answers some of the
questions that I always wanted to know about Leonardo such as, who was
his teacher? I'm sure you will find something you always wanted to know
as well. The article was written by Clyde Lee Dennis and I'll be sharing
more of his articles in the future.
Oil painting as an art form spread widely during the period of
renaissance in Italy. Oil painting techniques were invented, or more
appropriately reinvented, by the Flemish artist Jan van Eyck around
1410. After which Leonardo da Vinci came along and was acclaimed the
greatest [...]

Today I thought I would share with you an article with you that is
near and dear to my heart, the history of oil paintings. This article
was written by Vijay Kanth and covers some things that I didn't know and
I hope you get something out of it as well.
Oil Paintings are the stuffs of a certain time and certain set, and
art history of course tries to place these works in their superior
setting. Any body learning western art, for instance, would study to be
familiar with the styles of the Oil painting reproduction, Baroque,
traditional, idealistic and Modern periods, and to [...]

Black Friday is here and people everywhere are out and about shopping.
I won't be one of them, I'll pick my shots and avoid all those crowds
like I always do. I don't know if a good deal on an item or two is worth
all the trouble. Anyway, getting back to business today, I have for you
an article on the language of art and how artists use it to "craft"
their style. The article was written by William Tan who is an artist as
well as a writer.
Is there such a thing called language of the Art or Art language? [...]

choose art to decorate your home with. I'm glad I've come across this
source of art related articles as I would never have the time to put
together some of this information that I've been sharing with you this
month. This article here was written by Gabriel J. Adams and I hope it
helps those interested in adding artwork to their homes.
When you go about decorating your house, you’ll have many different
things to consider. It can be hard to add enough accessories to fill up
your walls and surfaces [...]

Today I have for you another article on the meaning of color. This
time the author Michelle Normand tells as how art can be used as therapy
to help heal people. If you missed the first article I posted on the
meaning of color you can read it . I know you will find
both of these articles interesting.
Feeling blue. Seeing red. A silver lining. All of these phrases came
about because of the meanings that can be attributed to colors. Maybe
you’ve always wondered why certain colors appeal to you or often find
their way into your artwork. As someone that creates [...]

Friday morning is here and it's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is
less then a week away. I'm looking forward to this years dinner with my
family. Today I want to share with you a great article that I came
across by Les Anderson who is both a writer and an artist. He brings us
a great insight as to what both "mediums" can do as far as producing an
emotional reaction.
"There's a long-distance loneliness rolling out over the desert
floor." So croons Jackson Browne in "The Fuse". With this painting of
emotion, the pen becomes the brush, the mind is the canvas. [...]

WHY SHOULD YOU FRAME YOUR ART?
by PAT QUINN on 11/12/2007 5:47:28 AM
Comment on this
|
Another Monday morning is here and I have for you today another
article by Aazdak Alisimo on artwork framing. This time he talks about
the importance of the frame itself.
There are two reasons why we have art frames on paintings. They can
protect art, of course, but most importantly they can aid to their
attractiveness on display.
Since the very early days of painting, frames have served to enhance
the visual beauty of art. Pictures were hung on walls and they became
furnishings. The first frames were often works of art themselves. They
were large and elaborately carved and decorated wooden frames. [...]

BEING A PROSPEROUS, SUCCESSFUL ARTIST

Here we are another beautiful Friday morning and today I have a great
article that all artists should read to make sure that mentally you are
not sabotaging yourself. This was written by Preston Parrott and really
shows us the attitude we need as an artist in todays world.
When you think of the word 'artist', what do you think of? Write down
your first response or image. Do you visualize a flaky, starving,
creative genius that is misunderstood by all; do you see a confident,
successful person that gets to live a life doing what she/he wants, or
do you see someone who is [...]

YOUR BEST APPROACH TO ART FRAMING
by PAT QUINN on 11/7/2007 5:16:43 AM
Comment on this
|
Today I thought I would share with you an article that I found on
framing your artwork in a way that it doesn't compete with the art
itself. It was written by Aazdak Alisimo who writes for
ArtFramingGalleries.com. I share most of Aazdak's views about framing
myself in how I handle framing my own oil paintings.
From the very beginning, art framing has been held to be an integral
part of the art itself. It must compliment it and support it without
trying to overcome it.
The approach to framing has changed through the years. In the
beginning, it was considered to be [...]

THE MEANING OF COLOR

|
Today I thought I would share with you an article I found on the
meaning of color. As artists we all have our own thoughts and feelings
on it so I know you will find it interesting.
Colors and the creation
Although we perceive color as a substantial thing, and we might want
to know the size and weight of it, as we do with physical things, we
cannot get to the essence of a color this way.
When we look at colors in the world, for instance precious gems of
different colors, we are not seeing the color itself, but a memory [...]

ANIMAL PAINTINGS NOT RESPECTED?

Today I thought I would share with you an article that I came across
online. I never knew that artists doing paintings of animals had a rough
time of it as far as exhibitions go. I always thought the doors were
"wide open" to this type of artwork but this article by Julie Crawshaw
tells us a different story.
Given the importance of animals in our lives and the symbolism of
animals in myth and art, it's surprising that most artists who paint
animals don't receive the respect they deserve.
Many art museum directors today don't appear to believe that
displaying paintings of animals [...]
