As many of you know, I frame my own paintings and paint them to match the painting. In the warm weather months this is never a problem as the daylight is longer and the heat outside aids in the drying of the paint.
In the winter months this can be a challenge. First off you can forget weekdays as it is dark by the time I come home from my day job. This leaves me with Saturday and Sunday only to work with. The other concern is the outside temperature as spray paint is recommended for sixty degrees and above so cold snowy days won't work for me.
The final concern is where to work on it. In the summer I just simply set up outside my patio and I'm good to go. If I have a painting that needs it's frame done then I have two options. My neighbor's garage and our garage bay at my day job if I'm lucky. This way I'm inside and right back in business spraying away.
My toughest challenge is if I have to make my own frame from "scratch" this means I have to do it in my neighbors garage which means I'll be there for an extended period of time. First I have to set up my router and miter saw to shape and cut the wood strips. Then I have to assemble the frame by drilling holes for the corner brackets that I use. After that it's time to fill and sand the frame nice and smooth, and then I can spray paint it to match the painting.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining as this is the thing I enjoy as much as the painting itself. When I talk to people about my art their face "lights up" when I tell them that any painting that they commission me to do can be any size they choose, and the frame will match the painting. My wood shop teacher from high school Mr. Robertson would be proud (LOL)!
That's all for now, I hope your Christmas plans are going well and I'll see you again in a couple of days, take care!
