Yesterday at lunch I ended up down at our local KFC like I seem to do on the weekends. Across the street is an antique store that I look at while I eat. This time I had that voice that said go over and check it out so I did.
The place is great! The owner Bill has stuff on three different floors of this house and sets everything up like a room would look like from that time. The dining room table and chairs an a room with china cabinets and old dinnerware, you get the idea.
I was on my way out when I meet Bill and he asked me if I was looking for something and told him that I always wanted to find an old english tea cart to use in my studio as my taboret. I must have walked right by it, but he pointed right to this one just like I pictured with the two big wheels in the back. I wasn't "out of the woods" yet as I had to look at the price tag. I couldn't believe it, it was $25.00! We have another store in my town that sells antiques and they had one that they wanted $450.00 for, so it was an easy for me to buy it on the spot.
I had to tie it down in my trunk to get it home but got there no problem. I looked at it along with my cats and I put together my ideas to modify it for my needs. I went to Home Depot and when I got back, I had a shelve on the back for tubes of paint being used, a glass 16"x20" palette, and a place to stand my brushes up that I'm using. For under $70.00, I was able to make my own taboret that meets my needs and if you look in art catalogs, these things go for $119.00 up to $249.00 so I guess I did good.
Have you made something yourself in a creative way that works for your needs? Leave me a comment and let me know, I'd love to hear what you came up with.
