Today I thought I would go over a concept that most artists are taught about at some point and that is creating your own "art community"
The Idea is pretty basic, instead of thinking about the art world as a whole you go about trying to create your own following. That is the reason most artists have a blog and now like myself offer a newsletter. You want to tell people what you are doing in the studio and take a genuine interest in them as well. I feel that not only is it a friendly way of doing business but the right way as well. Gone are the days where you sold a product to someone off the street, wished them a nice day, and that was the last that you see of them.
The goal of having your own art community is to know them the way you would your own family cause in a way they are, they are your extended art family. It was a love of art that brought the two people together in the first place. I've been building my own community for three years now and love how we are there to help out each other. They know that they can e-mail me about an art related concern and I'll find the answer that they are looking for. At my first art show last year four of my collectors allowed me to "borrow" back my paintings that they own for the show to really help make it happen, so thank you again as you know who you are.
My favorite thing is when someone discovers me in person or online and decides to come aboard either by investing in a framed oil painting or signing up for the newsletter. I know that there are thousands of artists out there so I feel blessed when people chose me as a source for good artwork and good art information and want to know what I'm up to. Thats all for now so let me know whats on your mind and have a great weekend!
