I don't know about the coming part, I just felt it was a great title for the post, but I do plan on building my own painting "taboret" in the near future. I planned it to fit my needs and desires. There are some nice ones out there on the market but they cost a good bit, and have things that you won't use and/or have things in a poor location based on how you work.
I've been using two plastic tables with shelves and wheels that I got years ago at K-mart, and they have served me well. The main upgrade that I want is a nice glass top to serve as my palette. I've loved being a "traditionalist" using two large wooden palettes, but cleaning glass is so much easier for painting everyday. I became handy with the "put the palette in the freezer" trick at the end of a painting session as the paints will stay wet for a week or more. The only thing is that some of the thin paint that you have worked with will dry on the palette if your not careful and will need sanded off. With a glass palette any paint stuck on the surface after cleaning can be scraped off with a razor blade and you're good to go.
The other "feature" that I'm building into my new table is to have my tubes of paint "standing up" right in front of me right below the painting surface. I want it to be like going into the art store and just grab the tube like it's in the display case. I've had my plans drawn up for some time now and it looks like it will be happening early this summer after I'm done with my mural commission.
Thats it for today, I just felt like sharing what I'm going to do with some of my "economic stimulus" rebate. Who said the government doesn't support the arts? Leave me your comments and thoughts as always and I'll see you again Wednesday evening.
