ANSWERING E-MAIL
by PAT QUINN on 4/28/2008 8:30:14 PM

Today I thought I would go over how I handle, and what I go through with my business e-mail. When you are an artist, the most common type of e-mail you get is spam. You need to put your business e-mail on your website so that people interested in your art can get a hold of you, but at the same time that makes it easy for the spammers. I just consider it one of the "evils" that you must deal with on the internet and go forward from there. Several months back I even did a post on handling it in an amusing way but I never did anything with it.

The second most common type of e-mail you get is link exchange requests from other websites. I enjoy these the most when it is from an arts related website and they contacted me directly as a result of coming across my site and telling me that they liked it. The main thing you want to watch for here is to make sure that most of your links are related to your site, in my case art, gifts, and home decor.

The third most common type of e-mail you get are the artist scams. Any artist who has a website that shows an e-mail address gets them on a regular basis. It's not as bad as it used to be , but they still are regulars in the inbox. I end up feeling sorry for these people because if they put the same time into something legitimate they wouldn't have to do this stuff.

The fourth most common type of e-mail you get is my favorite. Your honest comments, questions, and requests that I receive. I wish this type would be the only e-mail that I deal with everyday, but it's not and thats just the way it is. I check my business e-mail on lunch at work to save time and more then once something that one of you said about me and/or my art, really helped me get through my day and I can't thank you enough.

Thats it for today, I hope you enjoyed this look into an artists e-mail inbox. How do you handle your e-mail?, as always leave a comment and let me know. Take care and I'll see you on Wednesday.
